In an op-ed published in The Roanoke Times, ERE Executive Director Joe Rinzel noted that “currently in Virginia, we have an existing process whereby consumers can try to purchase energy from renewable sources and suppliers. Unfortunately, the burdens to doing that are so onerous, that most consumers and businesses in the Commonwealth can’t access those sources. Under current law, an entity would have to purchase at least 5 megawatts of energy to participate, far outside the normal usage of say a big box retail store.”
